German Shorthair Pointers originated in Germany and are a truly man-made breed.  These dogs were created for hunting and have been successfully used to hunt game since the 17th century. Today this dog is finds more popularity in Great Britain and the United States than in his homeland.

The German Shorthair Pointer is medium sized with short, water repellant hair which requires little grooming and webbed feet.  This breed’s color can be solid white, brown, or liver. Patches or ticking of the aforementioned colors on white are also seen. Wiping the German Shorthair Pointer down once a week is all the grooming this breed needs and keeps the coat sleek and clean.

The German Shorthair Pointer is a loyal, affectionate and eager to please breed. This dog does well with children when exposed to them early in life. German Shorthair Pointer's must feel part of the group and do not do will in kennels or confined areas such as apartments. If left to their own devices without daily exercise this dog will find something to do and it is usually destructive.
