This breed has a dense, short, wavy coat that is waterproof. It is seen in shades of brown including dead grass, sedge, and liver.
The Chessie is not recommended for a first time dog owners. This breed is extremely active and requires attentive owners.
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever enjoys work and loves the water. This breed is good with children it is raised with and is very protective of its family.
Chessie's are natural hunters but can be trained in obedience and search and rescue. Training must begin early in life.
