American Eskimo
American Eskimo dogs, or Eskies, make excellent family dogs, but are wary of strangers. Eskies prefer to be with adults, but will tolerate children and other dogs with early obedience training and socialization. American Bulldogs love to perform and learn new tricks easily.
The three sizes of Eskies (toy, miniature & standard) all share similar coat characteristics. The outer coat is very thick and medium in length. The under coat is dense and much softer. Colors are limited to pure white or white with biscuit.
Given their thick coats, weekly brushing is essential. Eskies shed considerably so brushing and combing are regular needs. These dogs are very intelligent and need regular exercise – a daily brisk walk and play session will suffice.
Though named the American Eskimo dog, this breed did not originate in Northern America. This breed is thought to have come from a combination of the Nordic spitz dogs, Pomeranians and keeshonds bred about 800 years ago.
