American Bulldog
The American Bulldog is self-assured, alert, outgoing and friendly with family members and those accepted by the family. This breed is wary of strangers and may be aggressive towards other dogs and therefore makes a good guard dog.
By socializing them from an early age, American Bulldogs can get along well with children and other animals, including cats. Since bulldogs can be very stubborn, it’s important to begin obedience training early with American Bulldogs.
This breed’s coat is short and quite stiff when touched. Coat colors may include white, white with red or brindle or brindle or red with white markings.
These dogs require daily exercise. Grooming is simple with a quick brushing required weekly.
Traditionally used for herding cattle and hogs, the American Bulldog originated in America during the 18th century. In the beginning these bulldogs were bred from English Bulldogs. Bulldogs make excellent watchdogs.
American Bulldogs are not suited to inexperienced owners. American Bulldogs are not suitable for city or apartment life unless very well exercised and trained.
