A. Finding your puppy or dog:
1. Click on the “Choose a Breed” drop-down box located on every page of the website.
2. Select the preferred puppy breed
3. Find the puppy you are interested in
4. Click on the “Read More” link or directly on the puppy’s picture to view additional information and puppy photos
5. You will find the following information on the puppy for sale: breed, sex, color, date of birth, date available, weights of parents, weight of puppy, estimated mature weight of puppy, registration information, price and shipping details. Other information about temperament and what the puppy price includes may also be available.
6. Click on the “E-mail” link to ask specific questions from the seller of the puppy.
7. Contact the seller by phone to discuss details, payment options, shipping details, etc. prior to purchase.
B. Purchasing your puppy or dog:
Ask the seller about payment procedures. Some listings include a BUY NOW button, which allows credit card and PayPal purchases.
To avoid falling prey to online scams, we recommend that you use Paypal or a credit card for the purchase. If an issue arises with your pup, Paypal or the credit card company can act as a mediator, making sure the appropriate actions are taken to ensure your rights.
We also recommend that you inquire about a purchase agreement and a health guarantee. Ethical breeders will provide some form of guarantee for both general health (an ear infection, for example) and congenital conditions (a heart murum, for example).
C. Receiving your puppy or dog:
Ask the seller about shipping arrangements. Some sellers only deliver locally, while others can arrange flights for their puppies or allow you to pick the puppy up at their location. Ask what’s included in the shipping price. A puppy that is flown will require a shipping crate, food and water, soft bedding, and a health certificate. Regulations in some states also require a rabies vaccination for older puppies.
Shipping is regulated by the USDA, and airlines also set strict guidelines for the safe transportation of pets. Reputable breeders will make every effort to make the puppy safe and comfortable, but make certain you understand what’s involved in the transporting of your new pet.
