Norwegian Elkhound Puppies
The Norwegian Elkhound has been called the 'Dog of the Vikings' and hails Norway. The breed has a history that can be traced back to 5000 B.C.
This dog has a double coat of coarse, straight hair. The coat comes in a shad of grey that will be lighter on the undercoat with black tips. Frequent brushings will keep the coat tangle and mat free and help with shedding although the breed sheds seasonally. Due to the heavy coat this breed can stress in warm temperatures and should not be exercised in the heat or high humidity.
This breed is a loyal and protective family pet. The Norwegian Elkhound does best with older children and often become faithful companions.
Plenty of exercise and play is needed for this dog. The breed can live in apartments but will need plenty of daily walks and activity. When walking the Norwegian Elkhound it is important to keep the dog on a leash as they will roam.
Training this breed can be difficult as the Norwegian Elkhound can be stubborn and independent and may resist obedience training. A firm and consistent hand combined with affection works best during training.
