Black and Tan Coonhound

Black and Tan Coonhound’s may be related to the Talbot Hound and the Bloodhound. They are excellent trackers of raccoon, bear, deer and other big game. They are alert and able to cover a lot of ground quickly.

The Coonhound is gentle and people friendly. This breed is content to be a couch-potato but love to exercise. They are nervous around strangers or unfamiliar dogs, but will adapt to them in time. Leash train while outdoors is critical as they are often distracted by their incredible sense of smell. Each dog will have his own “voice” which the owner can recognize from a distance.

This breed should not be considered if you are looking for a quiet pet, like all coonhounds they are quite vocal and will bark and howl often.
